Classification of Channel Steel
Channel steel is categorized into ordinary channel steel and light channel steel. The specifications for hot-rolled ordinary channel steel range from 5# to 40#, while hot-rolled light channel steel, supplied through agreement between supplier and buyer, is available in sizes from 6.5# to 30#. Channel steel is widely applied in building structures, vehicle manufacturing, various industrial frameworks, and fixed cabinets, often used together with I-beam steel.
Based on shape, channel steel can be further divided into four types: cold-formed equilateral channel steel, cold-formed unequal-sided channel steel, cold-formed inner-curved channel steel, and cold-formed outer-curved channel steel.
From the perspective of steel structure theory, the flange plate of channel steel should bear the stress, meaning that channel steel should be placed upright rather than laid flat.
