Color-coated coils are produced using hot-dip galvanized sheets, hot-dip galvalume sheets, electro-galvanized sheets, and similar substrates. After undergoing surface pretreatment processes such as chemical degreasing and chemical conversion, one or multiple layers of organic coatings are applied to the surface and then cured through baking. Because the steel coils are finished with organic coatings in a variety of colors, they are commonly referred to as color-coated coils.
