Recently, another piece of good news came from the domestic power equipment sector—a new generation of smart transformers, jointly developed by several companies, officially passed type testing and is planned to be put into demonstration operation in multiple power grids this year. This marks another important step forward for my country in the field of smart, efficient, and digital power equipment.

According to the project leader, the new smart transformer adopts fully digital monitoring technology, capable of collecting key data such as temperature, load, voltage, current, and oil gas in real time, enabling remote monitoring and fault early warning, significantly improving the safety and reliability of power grid operation. In addition, the product incorporates high-efficiency and energy-saving core materials, reducing no-load losses by more than 15% compared to traditional models, providing strong support for the construction of a green power grid.

In terms of intelligent design, the new transformer integrates an edge computing unit, which can perform local analysis and judgment of operating data, adjust the operating status in a timely manner, and achieve adaptive load management, providing a technical foundation for flexible regulation of the distribution network. Industry experts believe that this technology will promote the digital upgrade of urban power grids, industrial parks, and new energy power plants.

Currently, power companies in Shandong, Zhejiang, Guangdong, and other regions have expressed their intention to implement demonstration applications of the new products. These new products are expected to be first implemented in projects such as wind and solar power grid connection, urban grid upgrades, and industrial energy-saving renovations. With the country accelerating the promotion of smart grids and the dual-carbon strategy, the smart transformer market is expected to usher in a new round of rapid growth.

The Huadian Electric Research Institute stated that it will continue to deepen research in key materials, condition monitoring algorithms, and full life-cycle management to promote stronger competitiveness of my country's high-end transformer equipment in the international market.
